Our History

Founded in 1989 by Andy Wells, a member of the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians, Wells Technology began with a mission to solve industry challenges while creating opportunities for Native American communities. Today, we are a leader in precision CNC machining while remaining committed to our community-centered roots.

  • Andy Wells founds Wells Technology in Bemidji, MN, with a $1,300 investment, combining engineering expertise with a mission to uplift Native communities.

    1989 – Humble Beginnings

  • Andy’s son, Andrew Jr., joins, helping expand into modern technologies.

    1990 – Family Partnership

  • The company enters HUBZone programs, partnering with major corporations.

    Early 1990s – Federal Program Growth

  • Facility grows to 50,000 sq. ft. Andy’s daughter Wendy joins, expanding into industrial supply with Fastenal. Wells Academy, a nonprofit paid apprenticeship program for Native Americans and underserved communities, is founded.

    2004– Expansion and Wells Academy

  • Patents for “Vac-Lock” (NASA) and ergonomic air-powered tools are developed. The company earns AS9100, ISO 9001, and ISO 13485 certifications.

    2010s – Innovation and Industry Leadership

  • Wells Technology serves aerospace, electronics, military, medical, and computer sectors, employing ~50 people with 30% Native American workforce, maintaining its commitment to community while advancing in precision manufacturing.
